Question From Readers

Will this make it impossible for anyone to cash out from a pokerroom site?- afd dafds.

The proposed legislation will outlaw people from transferring fund from their credit card or bank account to any known online gambling site. This works both ways, internet betting site will not be able to transfer money to your account.

Thanks for the question, if you have any questions out there please don’t be afraid to drop me a line at save_internet_betting@hotmail.com.

Internet Gambling Legislation Makes it Through System

Well ladies and gentleman the poker legislation we have been talking about is in its next stage. The House has approved the anti-online-poker legislation by a vote of 317-93. It is now on its way to the Senate for final approval.

In addition to blocking money transactions from credit card and bank companys to any online gambling site, the new laws will ask ISP’s to block us from accessing poker sites. This new development is especially scary because it not only affects online poker players, but it's a bad precedent being set allowing the government to essentially control what we see on the Internet. I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory but it is real and you can see it for yourself by reading the poker legislation for yourself.

The good news is the bill has not made it all the way through the political process and there is still hope to stop it.

The best way is by doing what we do on this blog, discuss the issue and educate one another on it and come up with a solution. I am still collecting a list of names and email addresses to pass on to lobby groups and politicians against the bill. If you feel the same as me please offer your name to the list.

Save Online Gambling Blog in the News

I would like to thank the people at Poker Pro magazine for featuring an article about this blog in the upcoming issue. There have been a lot of people wondering how the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act will affect the average online gambler. The goal of the legislation is prevent American banks and credit card companies from doing any form of transaction with a known online gambling site. This greatly affects anyone who enjoys online poker and playing internet casinos. Again, thanks to all the people who have checked out the blog and have offered their support and feedback. Feel free to email me at save_internet_betting@hotmail.com.

Thanks for all of the emails so far, it’s nice to see there are others just as upset as I am about the government’s opinon on internet gambling. Again the best way to make sure you have the freedom to play on internet casinos and online poker rooms is to add your name, email and comments to our growing petition list.

The house busted on the debate of internet gambling, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee took home the pot. In a historic decision The U.S. House Judiciary Committee approved legislation that would essentially ban Americans from online gambling, an industry that is worth an estimated $12 billion. Previous legislation existed, but the current rules make it harder for international gaming companies, with bans on gaming companies accepting credit cards, checks, wire and Internet transfer payments. Banks will be asked to block money transactions with the estimated 2,300 online gambling businesses located off U.S. soil. Many banks have already come forward saying these types of demands would be hard to impossible to regulate.

Even with a dramatic 25 – 11 vote approving the legislation it is hard to say whether or not it will make the House and Senate’s floor this year, there are only a few working days left in the Senate this year due to the upcoming November congressional elections.

“The legislation is badly needed because ... the amount of money going to these illegal unregulated offshore enterprises has quadrupled" in the past few years, explained Rep. Bob Goodlatte, the author of the legislation and a Virginia Republican.

The American government has already made steps to ban internet gambling, previous legislation barred gambling on wireless devices.

Many in the industry argue that internet gambling such as online poker is getting treated unfairly compared to legal activities such as internet betting on horse racing, online lotteries and fantasy sports betting. Smaller banks have voiced their concern addressing the burden these added regulations will do to their business.

"If games of chance are given a free pass in this bill, it makes no sense that a skill game like poker should be banned. Congress should not be picking online winners and losers," expressed Poker Players Alliance president Michael Bolcerek.

Like a lot of people I am getting sick of hearing news about our American government trying to ban online poker and online betting. So I thought I would do something about it and well…. you’re looking at it and I think we can actually make a difference.

I am starting this blog for people like me, online gamers sick of hearing about their country trying to ban something that we enjoy: online betting. As it stands right now there is currently legislation going through Congress that not only reinforces the current bans on operating internet casinos and online poker rooms on American soil, but they are going to make our banks ban transactions to international gaming sites. How can our government do this?

I think a big reason for these latest developments is simply a lack of understanding on behave of online gambling and non players alike. A lot of people don’t even know about the ban and maybe what I am doing will help educate people.

There are some groups doing a lot of good work out there to stop our government's war against online betting, like the Poker Players Alliance (PPA).

I would like to collect names and email addresses of people against the ban on internet betting. If you are an internet casino or online poker player please send your name and email address to save_internet_betting@hotmail.com. When I have enough names I will send the information to groups lobbying against the bill, I am sure it could really make a difference.

Feel free to send me your thoughts and ideas on the ban against internet betting and I will post it on this blog. Again send your feedback to save_internet_betting@hotmail.com.

Let's see what we can do,

George
